    Term: 1 year

     

    The Marketing and Communications Specialist works closely with and reports to the Director of Marketing and Business Development to enhance MME’s vision and goals, build reputation and brand, and internal and external outreach. The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for internal communications, content development, and supporting the execution of tactical elements of MME’s marketing, communications, and outreach strategies.

     

    The Specialist implements a broad spectrum of integrated internal and external communications pieces via a variety of communications channels including but not limited to MME’s website, social media, digital mediums and print publications, and other emerging channels. The Marketing and Communications Specialist is a content development and management specialist, with exemplary communications skills, both verbal and written.

    Responsibilities

    Marketing and Communications Development and Coordination

    • Develop, implement, coordinate and monitor comprehensive marketing and communication strategies and action plans for all print, web, technology, and social networking initiatives based on MME’s strategic plans with an aim to build reputation and brand
    • Take on a leadership role to review, develop, produce and distribute effective marketing information and dissemination systems
    • Measure success and report on outcomes of marketing campaigns and other marketing activities to generate leads, develop relationships and build our reputation
    • In association with the Director of Marketing and Business Development Director, research, write, edit, and source stories, photos and content for MME’s web content, digital communications, and any other print and web publications
    • Market research including identification, monitoring and data analysis of national and regional trends
    • As needed, conduct quantitative and qualitative surveys of our internal and external stakeholders, such as but not limited to, questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, and secondary data analysis
    • Maintain and update the customer relationship management (CRM) tool (ie. Salesforce) with new and existing contacts and monitor their success
    • Event management including the creation of building and promotional signage as needed to support MME events
    • Keep all stakeholders informed of MME’s news and events in a timely and convenient manner
    • Support the Director of Marketing and Business Development as required
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    Website Creation, Migration, and updates

    • Ensure information on MME webpages are current and provide updates as needed
    • Working within Wordpress to create and update content
    • Support content development and edits to MME websites in the Waterloo Content Management System (WCMS) and support the migration of MME research groups and Faculty onto WCMS as needed
    • Provide ongoing support for newly migrated sites, assisting faculty with site updates
    • Develop automated Meltwater reporting standards and processes
    • Create automated social media and website monthly analytics dashboards

     

    Social Media Support

    • Establish online presence through social media content creation and support – including scheduling and responding to direct messages and assisting with maintaining a consistent online presence across all platforms
    • Reviewing content, editing, uploading, tagging, and transcribing videos for MME Social Media. Channels including the posting of all news items and events
    • Consider all social media channels (creation and curation of thought leadership content to build audience)
    • Autonomously develop ongoing expertise and stay current in a changing media and social media landscape and establish a process for ongoing content creation and scheduling

     

    Digital Asset Capture and Coordination

    • Work with research groups to document all equipment and facility assets
    • Create and organize photographs and descriptions of all the equipment and facilities
    • Organize digital assets and prepare content for website and social media integration
    • Experience in conceptualizing and storyboarding engaging and educational video content (videography and editing skills)
    • Assist with the execution of several ongoing digital projects including faculty profiles, facility, and lab sites
    • Establish a dynamic researcher search tool with a process to easily keep content up to date
    • Photography, videography and graphic design support

    Qualifications

    • University degree in Marketing, Communications, English, or a related discipline, and equivalent work experience
    • 5+ years of relevant experience in a marketing and/or communications role, experience in an educational setting considered an asset
    • Experience developing marketing and communication strategies
    • Extensive experience using web-based interfaces to manage and maintain web content (social media accounts and web content management system) for marketing
    • Demonstrated experience writing about technology and research; excellent editing skills
    • Proven ability in managing multiple-source projects that require attention to accuracy, consistency, and the ability to work with many different people with competing priorities
    • Graduate training is an asset
    • Experience with a content management system and best practices for web writing
    • Familiarity with business and marketing strategy
    • Knowledge of content management systems and social media scheduling tools (Drupal, Wordpress, Hootsuite, etc)
    • Excellent promotional/persuasive writing and storytelling abilities with a demonstrated track record of success
    • An excellent understanding of English grammar
    • Familiarity with social media (video creation)
    • Excellent presentation abilities (preparation and delivery)
    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail is required
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, and CRM databases
    • Knowledge of graphic design and Adobe suite products
    • Video content creation and photography direct experience
    • Understanding data analytics and open to creating systems
    • Solid understanding of quantitative and qualitative research and the ability to assess data to make informed recommendations
    • Ability to build consensus and foster teamwork among a variety of stakeholders
    • The role requires exertion of physical or sensory effort resulting in moderate fatigue, strain, or risk of injury
    • Role may involve occasional evening/weekend work
