    Term: 5 months

     

    The Assistant, New Student Transition is accountable to the New Student Transition Coordinator and will work with all members of the New Student Transition team to ensure the successful planning and implementation of all in-person and online student transition programs, staff and faculty engagement opportunities, customer service and administration tasks throughout the spring term.

    Responsibilities

    Volunteer coordination and management

    • Assist in the development and lead the coordination and implementation of the staff and faculty engagement strategy for all new student transition programming, including Faculty 101 Days, Orientation and other transition initiatives for incoming new students and their families
    • Coordinate and administer aspects of this strategy including registration management, marketing and advertising support, volunteer training and tracking, bookings and supply preparation and day of volunteer management

    Administrative support

    • Assist with the administrative preparation and tasks for First-Year Orientation, Parent and Family programming and a variety of other transition programs
    • Act as lead for Faculty 101 event days, assisting with the execution of the program, participant check-in management, supply preparation and other duties as assigned

    Customer service

    • Support the New Student Transition Coordinator and the Administrative Assistant, New Student Transition (co-op) in delivering outstanding and professional service to attendees of various student transition programs, their family members and staff and faculty volunteers, in-person, on the phone and via email, employing knowledge of the University and Student Success Office

    Qualifications

    • University degree or equivalent education and/or experience in a related field (e.g., Recreation & Leisure, Higher Education and/or Student Services)
    • Experience in a customer relations and/or administrative capacity
    • Volunteer management– particularly in a post-secondary environment is an asset
    • Some experience with Orientation and/or new student transition programming an asset
    • Able to work independently and on a team

    • Superior customer service skills

    • Knowledge of the University of Waterloo’s services and programs

    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

    • Passion for helping students during their transition

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks

    • Willing to take the initiative to get things done/make things better
