  • Overview

    Reporting to a Building Section Supervisor, the Serviceperson I Locksmith is assigned to the maintenance and installation of door closing devices and locksets for University buildings and to provide trade and job instruction and work direction to lower classifications and others as required and other duties as assigned.

    Responsibilities

    Examples include but are not limited to:

    Installation, replacement and maintenance of locksets and associated manual and electronic hardware as required throughout the campus and installation of various types of door closing systems, servicing safes and setting combinations, cutting of keys for Key Control, co-ordinating work assignments, requisitioning materials and elements of design for special projects when required.

     

    The Serviceperson I Locksmith may make decisions concerning replacement of locksets and maintenance required. Communicates reports, advises and receives instruction from supervisory staff concerning costs, materials, scheduling with other tradespersons and the priority of work and breakdown maintenance.  Coordinates the work of other employees assigned to assist with tasks.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of a grade 12 education or the equivalent
    • Possess a certificate of training in locksmithing from a creditable institution
    • Five (5) years recent experience as a Locksmith and a valid driver’s license
    • Maintaining a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check is a requirement of this position
    • The Locksmith must have a sound knowledge of installation and maintenance of all types of electronic and manual locking mechanisms door closers and devices
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
    • The Serviceperson I Locksmith does the work of other trades as required to the limit of their skill, training and code requirements
