  • Overview

    This position is accountable to the Director, WatPD for the effective implementation and operation of the EDGE program.


    Curriculum Development

    • In consultation with the Director, WatPD; Associate Director, Professional Development Program; and the Director, Centre for Career Action; oversees curriculum development for EDGE specific courses and workshops
      • Ensures the workshops meet the needs of students and Faculties
      • In conjunction with the AD, Program Improvement, ensures an effective program evaluation plan is in place for the operation and evolution of the workshops
    • Liaises with Faculties on the identification, development, and expansion of work and community based courses
      • Maintains the inventories of courses and brings updates to Senate Undergraduate Council as necessary
      • Advises on EDGE guidelines and best practices related to experiential education

    Program Administration

    • Establishes effective processes and procedures for the implementation and operation of the EDGE program:
      • Liaises with the Registrar's Office to implement solutions for effective tracking of program requirements
      • liaises with CECA for effective management of employer relations
      • Develops the necessary technological solutions to support operation of the program including appropriate integration with existing solutions on campus (e.g. LEARN, Portfolio software, WaterlooWorks, Quest)
      • Establishes processes for vetting experiential learning opportunities to ensure the integrity of the program and alignment with co-op practices and employers
    • Manages the budget for EDGE specific workshops and initiatives
    • Ensures all aspects of the EDGE program are being conducted in accordance with Waterloo policies and procedures

    Strategic Direction and Leadership

    • Provides guidance and direction to WatPD on the development, delivery and evolution of the EDGE program
    • In collaboration with co-op leadership, ensures appropriate alignment with and differentiation from co-operative education
    • As a member of the WatPD leadership team:
      • Participates in the development of departmental strategy and vision building
      • Establishes processes and procedures for the WatPD team
      • Builds an engaging and inspiring work environment
      • Promotes the work of the WatPD program internally at Waterloo and externally within the EE community
    • Advises and consults collaboratively with the management team about relevant problems and concerns, issues, and strategies for ongoing improvement within the department. Participates in the decision-making processes for the department 
    • Advises and consults collaboratively with the management team about the budget, particularly for items related to the EDGE program
    • Possesses extensive knowledge of the University, highly developed strategic, analytical and communication skills, and a high degree of political acumen and interpersonal skill to nurture relationships with a range of stakeholders across the university
    • When needed, serves as the Director's delegate at committee meetings and may be called upon to give presentations regarding the EDGE program

    Relationship Building

    • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with groups that may need information from EDGE and/or be able to provide assistance, collaboration, and guidance to program delivery and student support. This may include consultation with Faculties and academic support units to assist in their implementation of the EDGE program


    • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent education and experience. Degree in education or equivalent experience an asset. Master’s degree an asset
    • 3-5 years of experience leading the development and delivery of programs, workshops or courses within a post-secondary environment
    • 3-5 years of experience devising and implementing strategic plans in a collaborative manner
    • Experience providing program leadership to a team including functional guidance and direction to team members
    • Experience implementing new technologies and establishing processes
    • Experience with the development or delivery of experiential learning programs an asset
    • Proven skills in relationship management and achieving results using a collaborative approach
    • Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to use tact and diplomacy while interacting with a wide range of internal and external contacts
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills including superior presentation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to contribute to and thrive in a collaborative environment and to apply a positive team approach to working with internal and external colleagues
    • Possesses extensive knowledge of a university work environment
    • Strong knowledge of experiential education
    • Highly developed strategic and analytical skills
    • Ability to adapt skills and experience to a new environment
    • Strong understanding of technical systems and process implementation
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
