Overview

Term: 13 months

 

This position provides support to the General Merchandise Buyer, Apparel and Custom Orders and the General Merchandise Buyer, Supplies and Gifts, coordinates and operates pop-up shops in various locations, and assists in the development and execution of merchandising plans for all Print + Retail Solutions (P+RS) locations selling general merchandise. This position provides support to the operation, providing frontline customer service. The incumbent is expected to contribute to a positive working environment with co-workers and supervisors in P+RS and to support team goals.

Responsibilities

Support to Buyers

  • Assists with administrative tasks including data entry, spreadsheet creation, SKU creation for new product lines, sorting and preparing custom orders for shipping and bundling custom academic kits
  • Assists with analysis for re-orders, monitoring stock levels, new product selection, attends vendor meetings and trade shows with the buyers.
  • Under the supervision of the full-time buyers, prepares pending purchase orders, mark downs, charge backs and write-offs

Effective Retail Operations

  • Assists in the development and provides oversight of merchandising plans for all P+RS locations selling general merchandise
  • Coordinates and operates pop up shops, including the creation of packing lists, cash handling and providing oversight to part-time staff. Creates an event summary with followup recommendations
  • Ensures stock is rotated and displays are changed weekly
  • Ensures P+RS merchandising standards are upheld
  • Supports P+RS operations as needed as well as providing sales and stocking assistance during peak periods

Effective Communication & Client Service

  • At all times, acts as a brand ambassador for P+RS and the University of Waterloo.
  • Maintains excellent customer/vendor relations
  • Adheres to P+RS standards of excellent customer service

Qualifications

  • Completion of a High School diploma required, college diploma preferred; Equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered
  • Courses in customer service and merchandising are considered assets
  • Valid G driver’s license required
  • Minimum three years of progressive experience working in a retail setting required
  • Work experience in a post-secondary setting is considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills, oral and written communication, and customer service abilities are essential requirements of this position
  • Proven ability to work independently without supervision on a regular basis
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Proven abilities to multi-task and prioritize are essential
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Must be able to handle high-pressure situations, while remaining calm and courteous
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office
  • Demonstrated ability to use and learn new database and software (e.g., Visual Ratex, Point of Sale)
  • Extended weekend hours, or weekday extended hours may be required
