The Information Systems and Technology (IST) department's Information and Integration Management (IIM) group is looking for skilled individuals to join the Enterprise Data Management (EDM) team to develop Business Intelligence (BI) Solutions around Human Resources data to support the University of Waterloo.


Reporting to the Director, Information and Integration Management, the successful candidate will be working in a team spanning IT and HR to gather Business Intelligence (BI) requirements from across the University and then design and create complete BI solutions including data curation pipelines, warehouses, reports, dashboards, and cubes based on those requirements.


The primary technology used is the Microsoft BI Stack (MSSQL, Analysis Services, and Reporting Services) and the Microsoft Web Application Development Stack (C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET, Dapper.NET) although other tools are used in some capacity to fill functional gaps in the main tooling


The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to effectively learn new tools and a desire to continuously update and improve their knowledge of current tools. Knowledge or experience in all of the areas listed is an asset but is not required to be a successful candidate. A technical skills assessment will be administered to screened candidates to help determine their ability to self-teach new concepts


  • Strong written as well as oral communication, presentation, prioritization and time management skills
  • Be effective and equally conversant in business and technical environments
  • Experience with industry standard RDBMS (Oracle, MSSQL)
  • Experience in data warehouse and business intelligence environments using the Microsoft BI platform (SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS)
  • Experience with dimensional data models, data integration, data quality and general Data Warehouse ETL best practices
  • Experience in data conversions and data warehousing projects spanning multiple source systems
  • Knowledge of statistical procedures and applied data validation mechanisms
  • Thorough knowledge of BI/DW concepts, best practices, methodologies and iterative development methodology
  • Proven ability to learn new tools and concepts quickly is preferred
  • Experience with Human Resources data and/or systems. Experience working with PeopleSoft HCM or Workday is preferred
  • Recent experience building Business Intelligence or Analytics solutions in the Microsoft BI platform is preferred
