Overview

The people in this position are responsible for providing day to day support of our storage and servers systems focusing on our large virtualization and multi-petabyte storage environments. Each person participates in a progressive range of activities encompassing the design, installation, and maintenance, of these environments, also included is support of our Linux and Windows systems.

Responsibilities

Proactively monitor for potential issues and make recommendations for remediation Contribute to the planning and design of the storage and virtualization environments Advise clients on the function and use of installed hardware and software Perform hardware and software diagnostic testing to verify proper installations Configure, test, maintain assigned hardware and software Diagnose reported problems and determines cause in hardware, software, and or user action and complete repairs appropriately Work with vendors to diagnose and resolve problems and co-ordinate and install upgrades to system components Occasional work outside regular business hours Participate in an on-call rotation for problem-response support outside of UW business hours may also be required.

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • 2 or more years experience in designing, installing, and troubleshooting large virtualization and multi-petabyte storage environments
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, customer service, communication (oral and written), problem solving, analytical, and time management skills
  • Outstanding detective and investigative skills with the ability to identify and diagnose complex, non-intuitive technical problems as well as demonstrated ability to interact with a wide variety of clients under stressful conditions is an asset
  • Must be able to document and follow procedures
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Must be able and willing to pass a Government of Canada security screening for 'Protected B' data
  • Ability to work independently or as a team
  • Ability to learn and execute new skills
  • Must be able to learn and adapt to new environments
  • Knowledge of UW campus a strong asset
